Dr Bizimana urged French speaking mayors to push for laws against genocide denial within their countries

In his intervention during a panel discussion at the 41st summit of the International Association of French Speaking Mayors (AIMF), Dr Jean Damascene Bizimana, Executive Secretary of the national Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) urged the mayors to push for establishment of laws punishing denial of any internationally recognized genocide, including the genocide against the Tutsi, within their respective countries.

 He also recalled the role of CNLG in conservation and preservation of the history of the genocide against the Tutsi, transmission of its memory and education of its history especially to the youth.

AIMF brings together more than 300 cities or associations of local authorities in 54 countries today,

Prime minister Dr Edouard Ngirente who officiated at the summit on Wednesday said that the 41st AIMF summit in Kigali serves as a new opportunity for exchanges on strategic cooperation between the municipality and civil society organizations to address the challenges of living together and social cohesion.

The summit that run from 18th through 22nd July 2021, brought together more than 200 participants including members of the AIMF and other leaders for both Governments and Private sector.
