On Tuesday 20th April 2021, at Nyumba genocide memorial located in Gishamvu Sector, Huye District, a ceremony for the 27th commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi was held as well as decent burial of seven newly recovered bodies of genocide victims.
Mukamwezi Pelagie who gave her testimonies, recalled the ordeals endured by her family since 1973 where their house was burnt and the whole family subjected to a series of persecutions. She also reiterated the wildness utilized during the genocide in Nyumba and thanked RPA-Inkotanyi troops who stopped the genocide and rescued them.
The representative of the families who accorded decent burial to their relatives thanked the RPF for stopping the genocide and its resolve to ensure well-being of genocide survivors and Rwandans in general.
Théodat Siboyintore, president of IBUKA in Huye District said that commemoration is the occasion to denounce genocide and to blame those who deny and trivialize the genocide against the Tutsi.
Ange Sebutege, mayor of Huye District said that commemoration is the source for the strength to fight those deny and trivialize the genocide against the Tutsi as well as to belie those who alter its history. He said that the fact that we are still burying newly recovered bodies of genocide victims 27 years later, is due to people who conceal information on where bodies of genocide victims were thrown. He called upon whoever may have such information to provide it so that the bodies are accorded decent burial.
