On this Wednesday, September 2, 2020, a delegation led by the Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Mr. Serge Brammertz visited the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG).
The meeting chaired by the Executive Secretary of CNLG brought together other stakeholders of CNLG representing the institutions that work on genocide related matters including the ones that support the interests of survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi. While opening the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the fight against the Genocide welcomed the participants and gave the floor to the delegation to announce the purpose of their visit.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss about the ongoing investigation of the perpetrators of Genocide against the Tutsi, and how to get everything in place for the accused in order to give justice to the survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Mr. Serge Brammertz, commended the collaboration efforts made by Rwanda with regards to the process of tracing the perpetrators and providing required information like proofs on a given case, witnesses and so on. He emphasised that the efforts of the Mechanism are preceded by those of Rwanda in general and the CNLG particularly.
The participants talked about the need to establish a bilateral technical team to coordinate all the needed information to prepare for the upcoming genocide perpetrators’ court cases. This is in the effort to give justice to the Genocide survivors.
