Nyaruguru: students urged to brush off home-taught genocide ideology

Students of GS Ndago located in Kibeho sector, Nyaruguru district have been called to denounce the genocidal ideology that some parents teach their children while at home and to beware with whoever might tend to teach them genocide ideology or to impart divisionism among them.

The call was made on12th July 2017 during a lecture on prevention and fight against genocide ideology given by Damien Niyonshuti, the coordinator of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) in Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe districts.

Claude Rugumbira Ntarambirwa, the school’s head teacher who attended the lecture that was followed by 374 students of the secondary section and 150 students of the 5th and 6th   years of the primary section (P5&P6) together with 12 teachers thanked the CNLG  for establishing the program to give such important lectures .he said that they help students to understand well  the history of their country, especially the history of the Genocide against the Tutsi because most of them do not know much about it since they were born after it.

He challenged the students to always bear in mind what they learnt from the lecture, to brush aside the genocidal and revisionist ideologies that are taught to some of them by their parents, to observe the Ndi Umunyarwanda programme as well as the values and taboos of the Rwandan culture.

After they had got answers for the questions they had asked, the students pledged to never conceal information about whoever exhibits genocidal or revisionist ideologies, to take part in the fight against genocide ideology starting from their families, to support programmes of unity and reconciliation, to be involved in activities of the commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi and to observe the Ndi Umunyarwanda programme.
