Nyanza-Kicukiro: remains of three bodies of victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi get decent burial
On 16 May 2017, at Nyanza genocide memorial site, remains of three bodies of victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi have been decently laid to rest in Nyanza-Kicukiro memorial site. The bodies have been retrieved in Kigarama sector in Kicukiro district.
The funeral begun with a prayer and observance of a minute of silence to honour victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Janvier Byiyingoma, the representative of the victims’ family, thanked the Rwandan leadership for backing Genocide survivors especially during the decent burial of their slain relatives. He thanked everyone who supported them during the hard times and promised on behalf of the family, that they would be on their side too.
The president of IBUKA in Kigarama Sector, Innocent Munyaneza also thanked the leadership for supporting genocide survivors to accord the decent burial to their murdered families because it comforts the survivors.
The Executive Secretary of Kigarama Sector, Anathalie Uzamukunda, consoled the genocide survivors particularly those who buried the beloved ones that day. She commended the cooperation between institutions in supporting survivors to accord the decent burial to their slain relatives. She contended on the importance of genocide memorial sites in preserving the history of the Genocide. She said that: “If you don’t know your past, you can’t determine your future. We hence need to preserve genocide memorial sites so that we preserve the history of the Genocide against the Tutsi and strive to avoid its recurrence”. She thanked the former RPF Inkotanyi troops who stopped the Genocide and the Rwandan leadership for promoting the Unity among Rwandans.
